Whats up? I feel like i haven’t made a post in a long time and to be honest its just one of those times in life where i can get inspired and motivated to do anything! buuuut I’m back and I’m bringing you a review of Maybelline’s Master Sculpt Contouring Palette!
Just the word ‘contour’ scares a lot of people because they don’t know how to do it, where to put it, what it does and how it will turn out. So i thought i would quickly explain these things to you before i jump into my review. Contouring is used for shaping your face. Pretty much any areas of the face/body you want to draw attention away from is where you want to apply your contour. Most people use contouring on areas like cheeks, nose, forehead, chin, and neck. For example if you feel like you have a large forehead and wish to make it appear “smaller” then you would contour the sides of your forehead and around your hair line. This will draw attention away from your forehead and draw attention to areas like your eyes and nose. For your cheeks, you can apply contour in the hollows of your cheeks and a great way to figure out where this is on yourself is run your pointer finger down the side of your cheek and where you feel your finger drop in a little is where you should be contouring. This gives the illusion of a slimmer face and defined cheek bones (think Instagram makeup!). Now that you have a better understanding of what contouring is lets dive into the review!
This contour kit comes in two colours – light and medium. I use the light shade and its perfect for my skin tone! (for reference i use the shade ‘Vanilla’ in the L’Oreal pro matte foundation). In this kit you get a contouring shade which fills most of the pan and a highlighting shade also. Underneath the pan they also provide you with a small travel size contouring brush and a mirror which is always handy. I don’t use the highlighting shade much as i like something a bit more full on but this whole kit would be great for contouring and highlighting newbies.
I struggled to find a contour colour that didn’t make my face look really muddy and dark as all the previous brands i had tried did not provide a colour light enough for me so whenever i attempted to contour it just put me off wanting to keep trying because i couldn’t find a colour that looked half normal on me.. until now! This colour is perfect for me, you don’t need to use a lot of product at all and it applies really smoothly. I use this on most areas of my face including cheek bones, nose, forehead and chin and i don’t look like a pig who’s been rolling in mud which is always a great outcome! To apply this contouring shade i use a flat contour brush. I believe mine is from the brand models prefer.
OVERALL SCORE: 9/10
I LOVE this contour palette, its light enough for people with fair skin that still want to achieve pro makeup looks, its in a great travel size pan, its very affordable retailing at $19.95 at Priceline in AUS and it blends on the skin perfectly and lasts all day. If your new to contouring i highly recommend this over any other contouring product on the drugstore market – its hard to make a mistake with this product!
